Michelle Bergeron

Michelle Bergeron has been designing interiors, clothes, and just about anything she could fashion with her two hands, since she can remember… Being of French and Japanese descent, Michelle spent her childhood between the U.S., Europe and Asia, surrounded by an array of exotic art, architecture and a constant mix of cultures and aesthetics.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art History from Boston University and went on to continue post-graduate studies at both The Fashion Institute of Technology and The New York School of Interior Design in New York City. She worked at Christie’s Auction House and trained in the art of the painted finish at the Isabel O’Neil Studio in New York City before beginning the first incarnation of her design business as a fashion designer. Ms. Bergeron’s eponymous clothing line retailed in stores such as Neiman Marcus, Barney’s, Bloomingdale’s and Henri Bendel. Her designs have been featured in many fashion publications including Elle, W, Woman’s Wear Daily, Allure, and Cosmopolitan and on many network TV shows.

Detecting a hole in the luxury interior market that would benefit from her fashion designer’s attention to couture detail, exotic background and trained eye, Ms. Bergeron began to shift her design focus to interior decoration, event and furniture design.

It is here where she has truly found her proverbial “calling..”

Her body of work includes design consultation for private residences in New York and Los Angeles, and retail and hospitality projects as well.

Michellebergeron.com includes her bespoke furniture line SKATEMODERNE, and a carefully edited curation of her favorite modern and vintage pieces, artist special editions and unique finds from her travels. It is a site that she considers, “jewelry for the home,” speaking to her love of travel and immersion in creating beautiful spaces and experiences for her clientele.

Skatemoderne Line:

Authentic “skate” or “shagreen,”(stingray/shark skin,) was first showcased in the luxury good markets by French Art Deco and Mid Century artisans. Her custom “Skatemoderne” furniture and home accessory line perfectly imitates the pebbly texture and ethereal quality of the real skins without harming any sea creatures. It is lacquered for durability, comes in any color, is water –resistant and the “skins” can be designed in any pattern.

Skatemoderne embodies her signature style of mixing Asian-inspired Modernism with French Classicism or Middle Eastern motifs, paired with organic elements like raw crystals, exotic woods, and Deco silhouettes. Every piece is to-order and shipped from New York. SKATEMODERNE, jewelry for the home.
